Gears 5 recently completed two rounds of its multiplayer tech test, designed to stress out the servers and give gamers an advanced look at the competitive multiplayer modes. The biggest new addition is Arcade, a much faster version of Team Deathmatch that ratchets up the headshot damage, adds in playable classes, and de emphasises shotgun gameplay. The latter is a huge change, completely shifting the dynamic of your typical Gears round. It’s less about wall bouncing and shotgun spamming (thankfully), and more about precision gun play and smarter movement. Ranked modes were also present and accounted for, but these have received less radical tweaks to their core rule sets. The video embedded below is a collection of our best moments from the Arcade mode, as we eagerly anticipate the release of the full game.

THE BASICS - Third person shooter, with multiple different game modes.

PLATFORMS - XB1, and PC

PLAYERS - Offline - 3, Online - 10

CO-OP? MULTIPLAYER? - Three player campaign co-op, horde / escape modes, plus competitive multiplayer and a map editor

DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT - All maps and modes will be free. There will be premium cosmetic DLC.

KEEPSAKE? - A selection of our favourite moments from a particular game or series, presented as either a retrospective looking back at older titles, or as a compilation of clips captured directly by one of our team. This will sometimes be presented alongside audio commentary, or as an additional component to a hands on preview / review.
